This past Sunday we finally got a chance to use some passes I had to visit the zoo. We have tried to go earlier in the winter, but the weather hasn't really cooperated! It was still chilly yesterday, but at least it was sunny and wasn't windy, snowy, or rainy.
We were excited to take Matt to the zoo because he loves animals so much. (With the winter we've had we just haven't been able to see many in person since our regular stops - the dairy bar, the berry farm, the sheep pasture park - have been too snow-covered to walk around or have had the animals inside.) Matt has been to the zoo before; in fact, we went for his birthday. But now that he knows a lot more about animals we thought he would appreciate going even more. As we expected, he really enjoyed our outing.
Watching the flamingoes
The Bird World exhibit was a big hit
Touching the blue-tongued skink
Watching ducks swim around
Looking at the peacocks up in the trees
As we continued onto the next exhibit we found some peacocks walking around, and one passed very close to Matt. Since he's fascinated with peacocks, that was definitely one of the highlights for him.
As much as he enjoyed the birds, he was NOT interested in the gorillas.
Matt wasn't interested in spending as much time as I was watching the ocelot.
Laughing at the pygmy falcon's attempt to scare them off
Not sure what to think of the tapir
Fish!
Lunch break! Time for stomping in the snow and swinging sticks.
Watching the prairie dogs
Blissed out at the duck pond
Studying the Amur leopard
Watching the zebra
