After taking Monday off, we had a lot going on Tuesday, even if our baby play group was cancelled on account of extra long naps no one wanted to interrupt. That afternoon we participated in another study. Matt watched a puppet show, which he found funny, and had a toy placed behind plexiglass to test his reaction to a potentially frustrating situation. After a bit, he looked to me and the researcher with suspicion that maybe something unusual was going on, which I don't think is the typical reaction. We then joined another mom and her boy, who's exactly 6 months older than Matt, at a local playground. The other boy ran around while Matt spent some time on the swings and playing in the grass while the moms vented about teething. (I'm still not sure which teeth will appear next and when; he already has more teeth than the official charts say he's supposed to have by now.)
Wednesday we had library story time, during which Matt actually shook the toy shaker we use for the good-bye song. Prior to this week he had only been interested in eating the shaker, but this week he's all about shaking things. Here he is shaking one of his balls at home (and notice how he uses both hands):
That afternoon, since we both needed some distraction, we went to a craft store to get some supplies for some projects and then to Costco. Thursday I went into work again and Matt stayed with my friend for the morning. Friday we went with my moms' group to a local zoo for Matt's first zoo trip. The weather turned out to be just about perfect for a morning walking around looking at some animals and then eating a picnic lunch in the park.

Strollers make for good makeshift high chairs!
Saturday we stayed home. Matt helped Jon check out some things on my car, and then he and I went for a walk around the neighborhood to check out the racecourse some of the kids down the street had set up. Finally, Sunday we went to a brunch hosted by some of Jon's friends.
Matt now eats oatmeal, apricots (he's lucky he got as many fresh ones as he did because we ate the rest), and peaches (ditto!).
He spent a lot of time this week doing more prep work for crawling. Much to his chagrin, he is still moving backwards, but we've seen a hint now and then that forward motion is in his near future.
If I could, I'd be coming for you!
Argh! Everything is still... just... out of... reach...
The cat is becoming wary of the little hands increasingly trying to grab her. Notice how she's just out of reach.
Matt's new position of the week is the plank. He's not able to hold it very long right now, but soon he'll have the strength and endurance he needs.
And now for a video I can't stop watching: baby chuckles!
