On a very hot Friday we went to the Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Looking over the fossils, including a T Rex skull in the middle
A mosasaur skeleton
Matt looking at the sabertooth cats
Matt and Jon looking at the duck-billed dinosaur
Andy looking closely at a big dinosaur bone
The sea reptile and mammoth centerpieces
Matt with a triceratops skull
Matt eyeing the T Rex teeth
Matt examining a young plesiosaur
Fossilized crabs
After lunch we went to a local independent bookstore, Mitzi's Books, where we passed a couple of enjoyable hours.
Matt with a Mad Hatter hat
Jon reading to Matt in the children's corner
The boys had fun playing at their grandparents'.
Andy trying to move the watermelons
The boys playing with the trains
Andy trying his hand at the glockenspiel
And then it was time to go home. We didn't have any flight delays on the way home, but the hour and fifteen minute layover somehow only allowed us enough time to grab our gate checked bag, hit the bathrooms, and grab a sandwich to go before we were on our final flight of the trip.
Chicago from the air
Andy napping (he finally fell asleep just before the first flight landed and stayed asleep for part of the flight home)
Matt having fun on the iPad
And so we survived our first trip by plane as a family of four!
