South Dakota (July 2017), part I

About 10 days ago we went to South Dakota. It was Andy's first plane ride - and Matt's first since our last trip to South Dakota. We went to see Jon's family and attend his younger sister's wedding (I'll post about that separately). Here are the photos from the first half of our trip:

After finally making it and through to the airport only to have to wait on the plane at the gate for over an hour and a half, Andy finally crashed. Let me tell you: a sleeping Andy is 1000 times easier to fly with than one who's awake (and so very, very busy), as he was for the rest of the flights...

We saw this dinosaur skeleton, sponsored by the Field's Museum, as we made our way to our connecting flight at Chicago's O'Hare Airport.

Due to the same thunderstorms which had grounded our plane, we, along with everyone else, had a multi-hour flight delay. We spent the bulk of that time in the play space sponsored by the children's museum.

We finally made it to South Dakota.

The boys meeting Tasso, who reluctantly allowed himself to receive some enthusiastic pets

The next day we went on a tour of the Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, which encompasses a giant sinkhole with over 60 mammoth skeletons. Jon had recently read Sunset of the Sabertooth by Mary Pope Osborne, part of The Magic Tree House series, set during the Ice Age, so we thought he would appreciate seeing some actual mammoths - or at least what's left of them.

This is Andy having a good time at his grandparents' house (on a horse, not a mammoth!).

More from South Dakota to follow...
