Week 25

I know I'm a little behind, so here's week 25's post. Better late than never, I hope!

After our very busy week, we had a very quiet one this past week. Monday we had baby play group. Tuesday we went to Costco - very ambitious with a child who loves grabbing everything, and I mean everything, and who has a very strong grip... but I have to say life is so much easier when one can sit one's child down with a few toys while unloading the car. We stayed home the rest of the week after I came down with a sinus infection. Matt's big adventure of the week was on Saturday, when Jon took him to the library to meet some baby animals during their Earth Day celebration.

The piglet wisely chose to sleep during the whole event, but the puppy dog was awake.

Matt stayed busy, however, working on his teeth. The two bottom teeth were in by the start of last week, and the two top teeth should be within a couple of weeks, if not sooner.

Flashing his new toothy grin last Monday

He has also been working on pushing up onto all fours in preparation for crawling.

He's still working on getting the actions coordinated, but it's only a matter of time...

If someone props him up on all fours, he'll stay for a few seconds.

Week 24

This past week was a very busy one for us. Monday we had baby play group, and that afternoon we went for a walk with another mom, her kids, and their dog. Matt tried out a swing for the first time. As you can see, it was a hit.

He also had his first encounter with a sippee cup. We let him play with it and try to figure it out. The first few attempts may not have been successful, as this video shows, but by Wednesday he seemed to have the hang of it.

Tuesday we went to our moms' club coffee break, then a check-up appointment for me. We spent the afternoon with some friends, where Matt and his baby buddy needed a little time to figure each other out. They finally found a good compromise, standing around a baby play table and banging away. Here is Matt playing with that toy by himself. Notice the left leg kick; that's a new little quirk.

That's how Mozart got started, right?

In any case, all of that banging makes a baby hungry.

Wednesday we had baby story time at the library. We enjoyed spending the rest of the day at home for a bit of a break. Here's Matt doing some tummy time, which currently seems to include a few face plants:

I was also excited to see that despite a dusting of snow that morning our daffodils finally bloomed. Matt didn't seem as impressed.

Thursday I went into work for the first time to help with a school program while a very generous friend watched Matt. I was almost more worried about her being overwhelmed with her baby and mine than I was about Matt, who has a good time - and luckily naps, too - wherever he goes.

That afternoon we went to an Easter egg hunt for our moms' club. Matt was too young to join in the fun looking for eggs and eating candy, but he enjoyed watching the other kids run around, and we both got a chance to catch up with some friends. Friday we went for a walk with a friend and her baby, and then we participated in a study about mother-infant communication at a local university. Here's Matt taking a quiet moment to process all of the questions we were asked:

Saturday we went car shopping. I like my car, but we need a little more room these days for the car seat and stroller plus all-wheel- / four-wheel-drive so I'm less likely to get stuck in the snow with a baby in the back. Finally, on Sunday we joined a friend's family who very sweetly invited us to join them for Easter dinner. Matt dressed up and behaved himself for the most part, but he tried to sneak a taste of whipped cream.

Whew! I don't know about Matt, but that week wore me out. This coming week is school vacation week around here, and we need the break!

Week 23

A quick post. Our week was pretty busy, with play group, library story time, and lots of walks. Jon was away for much of the weekend, but we all managed. This week will be even busier! In the meantime, here are some photos from last week:

Ready to go enjoy the outdoors

Tired out from a good walk

Intent on playing

Mighty cute - and very silly

Inspecting a spoon - he'll be eating solids soon...

...but not that kind of solids...

or that kind!

Happy, well rested baby!

Week 22

This will be a quick post, as we are preparing for a busy month.

Last week we had playdates, we attended library story time, and we went for some nice walks outside.

Quick photo during one of our walks

Unfortunately, we had our first unscheduled doctor visit on Wednesday, but Matt was OK and by this weekend he was back to normal. In fact, we had a couple of days when Matt wasn't sick, growing, or teething, so we were all in very good moods. Few things are as fun as giggle sessions with a happy baby!

Now, a few photos:

Happy 5-Month Birthday, Matt!

Today Matt is 5 months old. He weighed almost 19 1/2 pounds earlier this week, so he has already doubled his birth weight.

Here are two videos I took this morning of Matt sitting. He's doing very well, although once he leans too far to the side or back he's not yet able to correct himself.
